Southwest Airlines’ two new Boeing 737-800 aircraft began operational service today – April 11 2012.
Boeing 737-800 Flight 1717
The first one, Flight 1717, has just taken off and can be seen live on Plane Finder.

And not long afterwards below is N8302F (Flight 653) seen departing from Baltimore-Washington International (BWI / KBWI).
Boeing 737-800 Flight 653

You can see flight 653 live on Plane Finder.
We’re delighted here at planefinder.net to see that these are the first SWA flights equipped for NextGen.
This will enable the aircraft to operate more efficiently, a vital function in such a competitive market.
The 737-800 is also able to carry 38 more passengers than the current fleet of 737s.
31 more 737-800s are on order. Great news for both passengers and Plane Finder users.
Warrior One, N8301J
