Republic Airways has made a multi-billion dollar order for 47 new Embraer 175 jets, uk.reuters.com reports.
The airline, which will operate the fleet under its American Airlines domestic network, has signed a contract which offers the possibility of acquiring an additional 47 jets at a later date. If all aircraft are acquired, the deal will be worth in the region of $4 billion.
Due for delivery by mid-2013, those watching live flight progress maps of the USA might spot the dual-class layout craft, each accommodating 76 passengers.
Brazilian manufacturer, Embraer is a leader in the 70 to 120-seat jet market, according to breakingtravelnews.com. Its E175 craft are used in 40 countries and the new generation have been enhanced with systems optimisation, improved wingtips and aerodynamic refinements which the website says will make fuel consumption savings of five per cent.
Embraer Commercial Aviation president, Paulo Cesar Silva said: “It is significant that our long-time, valued customer, Republic Airways – a true innovator in the regional transport business – is the first customer for the enhanced E175. It’s a perfect example of how our investments in product development make our customers more competitive in their markets.
