Egyptair flight MS985 from Cairo to New York has been diverted to Prestwick Airport in Scotland.

News agencies are reporting that security forces are attending after a passenger discovered a letter onboard threatening to blow up the aircraft. The MOD has confirmed that RAF fighter jets were scrambled to escort the plane down.

Egyptair Boeing 777-300ER Aircraft

The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, registration SU-GDO and using  callsign MSR985, issued a 7700 emergency squawk  over the North Sea before diverting to Prestwick, landing at 14:30. The airport is operating normally.

The flight had departed Cairo International Airport , Egypt and was expected in New York at 15:15 local time.
